A Candy Company That Has Stood the Test of Time
While doing a bit of research on the oldest candy companies in the United States, "Chase and Company", better known today as the "NECCO Candy Company" of Revere, MA stood out as being the oldest continuosly operating candy company in the United States.
The company is also known for inventing and patenting the first American candy machine. After merging with several other companies in the Greater Boston area, NECCO was formed in 1901 and continues producing candy specifically NECCO wafers to this day. in 2010, NECCO produced its one trillionth NECCO Wafer candy!
Here are several photos of NECCO displays that were commonly used in candy and general stores from the 1920's - 1950's.
Included is a display (photo courtesy of J. Bumbarger) that was taken at the Nut Shop in Clearfield, PA. Notice the display that is in the photo is the same as we have in our collection.
